Care that
meets you
where you are.

A calm space — neutral interior with plants
A space to breathe

We're so glad you're here. At Fern & Fathom, our goal is to make mental health care feel less clinical and more human. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or just need someone to actually listen — we offer psychiatric evaluations, medication management, supportive therapy, and wellness coaching, all from the comfort of wherever you are.

We work especially well with people who feel stuck, hesitant, or who've had bad experiences with providers in the past. If you've felt rushed, dismissed, or judged before — we get it, and we'll do this differently together.

Most insurance and self-pay accepted. Take the first step toward feeling better. We're here to help.

Dr. Raven Aleman
DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC

Hi, I'm Dr. Raven — pet lover, world traveler, and proud U.S. Navy veteran. With a Doctor of Nursing Practice and board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I bring deep clinical expertise paired with the kind of genuine warmth my patients tell me they couldn't find anywhere else.

I specialize in integrative psychiatric care for adults navigating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD and trauma, OCD, ADHD (with non-stimulant approaches), grief and loss, and major life transitions. I take a whole-person approach: medication when it makes sense, paired with supportive therapy, lifestyle considerations, and, when you'd like, animal-assisted therapy with my own beloved dogs.

Patients tell me I'm different from other providers they've worked with — that I'm approachable, that they don't feel judged, and that they can finally just be themselves. That's exactly what I'm trying to build here. No five-minute medication checklists, no rushed appointments, no feeling like a number. Just real conversations and a plan that's truly yours.

"Caring for patients isn't just my profession — it's my passion."

Marie
Newball
APRN-CNP, PMHNP

Hi, I'm Marie. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or exhausted from trying to manage your mental health on your own, you're in the right place. You deserve care that feels clear, intentional, and supportive — care that respects who you are and where you come from.

My approach begins with listening. I see you as a whole person — shaped by your experiences, values, and culture — not just a diagnosis. Every decision is made with you, not for you. Support is also available in Spanish for those who feel more comfortable in their native language.

— Frequently Asked

Questions, answered.

Real answers to the things people most want to know before booking.

What states does Fern & Fathom serve?

We provide HIPAA-compliant telehealth psychiatric care to patients located in Texas, Hawaii, Washington, Colorado, New Mexico, and New Hampshire. As long as you're physically in one of these states during your appointment, we can see you.

Do you prescribe controlled substances like Adderall or Xanax?

No — and we want to be upfront about that. We specialize in integrative, evidence-based psychiatric care without controlled substances. We do not prescribe Adderall, Xanax, Ativan, Ritalin, Valium, or Ambien. Instead, we use safe, effective non-controlled medications (like SSRIs, SNRIs, and non-stimulant ADHD treatments such as Strattera and Qelbree) combined with lifestyle interventions, therapy, and wellness coaching for sustainable mental health.

Is care available in Spanish? ¿Hablan español?

Yes. Marie Newball, APRN-CNP, PMHNP provides care in both English and Spanish, with a culturally responsive approach that honors your identity, background, and lived experience. Sí, ofrecemos atención psiquiátrica en español.

Do you accept insurance?

We are in-network with select insurers and offer superbills for possible out-of-network reimbursement. We also accept self-pay. When you reach out, we'll help you confirm your specific coverage so there are no surprises.

What conditions do you treat?

We provide care for a wide range of mental health conditions including anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD and trauma, OCD, ADHD (with non-stimulant approaches), grief and loss, adjustment disorders, life transitions, mood dysregulation, personality disorders, and more. If you're not sure where you fit — that's okay. Helping you figure that out is part of the process.

How is online psychiatry different from in-person?

Honestly? For most people, it isn't. Texas, Hawaii, Washington, Colorado, New Mexico, and New Hampshire all require telehealth psychiatric care to meet the same standard as in-person visits. You get a comprehensive evaluation, ongoing medication management, and supportive therapy through HIPAA-compliant secure video — without the drive, the waiting room, or the wasted PTO.

How do I book an appointment?

Three options: book online at fernandfathom.clientsecure.me, email Contact@fernandfathom.com, or call (512) 886-0962. Most new patients can be seen within a week.

What if I'm having a mental health emergency?

If you or someone you love is in crisis, please call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911. Telehealth is not for emergency care. Once you're safe and ready for ongoing support, we'd be honored to be part of your care team.
